Hay fever Vs Coronavirus – Comparison and Difference

If you mistake coronavirus for hay fever, you could be helping to spread this highly contagious and deadly virus and not even realize it. So how do you tell the difference?

Watery eyes and nose

That is typical of hay fever not coronavirus but it may make you more inclined to touch your face but you don’t want to do that because that’s one of the ways you can catch coronavirus.

Fever

Despite its name hay fever doesn’t come with a fever but it is one of the main symptoms of coronavirus.

Sneezing

That is typical of hay fever but that’s not typical of coronavirus but you want to make sure that you catch any sneezes in a tissue and you put them in the bin.

Coughing

This is where it gets more complicated so a new continuous cough is one of the main symptoms of coronavirus but it can also happen with hay fever. If the cough feels like it did last time you had a fever then it’s probably a fever again. If you are not sure if you’re having difficulty breathing, then you really should get in touch with your doctor. Or in the UK use the NHS 111 coronavirus service.

Loss of smell

It is not one of the main symptoms of coronavirus but a lot of people who have had covid19 say it happened to them. It also happens with fever. The best idea here is once again to get in touch with your doctor and explain your symptoms.

Can we only take hay fever medication?

Yes, if you have been prescribed paper even medication you should continue to take it. There is no evidence to suggest that there might make you more susceptible to covid19 or not .
